Tiago Vaz Serra is a prominent Portuguese serial entrepreneur and startup investor, with extensive experience in venture capital, business angel investing, and corporate finance. After over two decades in investment fund management, mergers & acquisitions, and banking—including a stint in Madrid—he returned to Portugal around 2010, where he began actively supporting startups as a business angel through DNA Cascais. He currently serves as Manager of Plural Funds, a private equity firm in Lisbon, Portugal, while continuing his hands-on role as an angel investor in early-stage ventures. Known for his practical approach to minimizing startup failure through strategic guidance, conscious entrepreneurship, and team motivation, Tiago remains a key influencer in Portugal’s dynamic tech and innovation ecosystem.

José Basílio Simões is a renowned Portuguese serial entrepreneur, CEO, board member, and angel investor, with a strong background in engineering and innovation. Holding a PhD in Technological Physics from the University of Coimbra, where he taught for many years, he co-founded ISA – Intelligent Sensing Anywhere in 1990, scaling it into an award-winning international high-tech company in IoT and smart metering, later listed on NYSE Alternext Lisbon. He has since co-founded and invested in energy ventures, including Virtual Power Solutions, Energia Simples, and Cleanwatts (as co-founder, vice-president, and key leader), a leading climate tech pioneer in Renewable Energy Communities based in Coimbra. As a dedicated business angel, he coordinates the Centro Business Angels Club, has invested in multiple tech startups since 2010 (particularly in energy and sustainability), and manages early-stage funds. Known for his charismatic leadership, strategic vision, humility, and commitment to Portugal’s innovation ecosystem through mentorship and driving the energy transition, Basílio Simões remains a key influencer in the country’s tech, cleantech, and entrepreneurial landscape.
